Antique Railcar Transportation New York to New Jersey

We were recently engaged to manage the move of an antique subway car from the Queens Borough Courthouse to New Jersey. Specifically this was a “Redbird” train. Redbird trains were New York City Subway train models that were so-named because of their red paint.

While these relics can no longer function for the purpose of transporting goods and freight, they’re a piece of history. Whether they’re old engines or boxcars, coil cars, covered hoppers, flatcars, gondolas, intermodal equipment, tank cars or cranes, they still have value, particularly as museum pieces.

And that’s the case here. You just can’t throw this piece of history away. Moving light or heavy rail cars, engines requires rigging experience above all. If these historical artifacts aren’t properly and expertly secured they may never get to their destination in one piece.

To give you an idea of what’s involved in this move from a municipal building in Queens to a facility in Jersey – let’s look at some of the important items on the work order.

First and foremost one needs a reliable crane company and we partner mostly with Bay Crane of Brooklyn. We’re using 1 STRETCH TRAILER that opens to 53’ and a step deck for the train wheels.

We’ll use 20-TON SPREADER BARS (SUPPLIED BY BAY) and of course forklifts and 4 riggers amongst a variety of other machinery apparatuses.

We are heavy haul specialists and can move and transport electric locomotives, cabooses, boxcars, and other archaic transportation relics from years gone by.
