What Kind Of Riggers Transport And Hoist Giant Aquariums on Long Island?

When it comes to transporting and installing delicate cargo like a 900-gallon fish tank, you need experts who can handle the job with precision and care. We were originally contacted by a client about rigging and transporting a new 900-gallon fish tank through the back door of a house. The only issue was there was no easy path to get to the back door. Further complicating matters was that a previous attempt with a different Long Island Rigging Company resulted in a cracked tank.
After conducting a site visit it was determined that the safest way to get the tank into the house would be by hoisting it over the house with a crane, down between two sections of the house and landing in a space with only inches to spare between the steps and the back entrance. But before we can talk rigging, let’s discuss transportation. You must choose the correct piece of equipment to ensure the tank can be safely transported while also avoiding any logistical issues upon delivery. When dealing with fragile freight such as glass, you want to make sure it is transported on an air ride trailer to avoid any damage in transport. Also, you must choose the correct sized vehicle. Too short and it won’t fit the tank, too long and it won’t make it up the clients winding driveway.
Once the tank safely made it to the house, it was offloaded with our forklift and staged to be lifted by crane over the house. Selecting the correct equipment to hoist the fish tank over the house was essential in making sure our client did NOT end up with another cracked tank. The use of spreader bars was a necessity in making sure the slings did not apply any pressure on the tank as it was lifted.
After the tank was lifted over the house, it had to be lowered between two sections of the house while also landing between the steps and back door with only an inch to spare. The other challenge was keeping the crane block and cable from contacting the side of the house and the gutters. But this was only the start of the rigging process. The tank was placed on heavy-duty machinery dollies with 4×6 pieces of wood and rolled through the doorway where we had to transition from the outside patio, which was three inches higher, to the basement floor. Once inside, the tank was rolled over a 7” high pipe, this is where our expert planning once again came into play. By initially landing the tank on 4×6 pieces of wood, we were able to clear the pipe without having to readjust the height of the tank. After all the less you must handle a delicate piece of equipment such as a fish tank, the less risk there is. The last part of the rigging process was carefully lowering the tank between a wall on one side, and a stone façade on the other side which once again only had an inch to spare.
And that’s not all. You may have also noticed the large 17,000 gallon aquarium inside our clients home as well. This was also brought in by Pedowitz previously and assembled on site.
